Soil was collected in 6 layers up to 300 cm, using a mechanized soil corer, in the following layers: 0-20cm, 20-40, 40-100, 100-150, 150-200 and 200-300 cm. For aboveground carbon, the diameter at breast height and height of all trees were measured. For the litter and woody necromass < 2.0 cm, a square of 0.25 m2 (0.5 m × 0.5 m) was deposited on the soil and the material collected. For the fallen woody necromass, we used the intercept line method. For fine roots, we collected soil in the same layers of the soil carbon stock and measured the amount of fine roots. For coarse roots, we estimated based on the aboveground biomass. For the aboveground biomass, coarse roots and coarse woody debris, we used data from literature. We then calculated C stock following specific methodologies for each pool (check https://doi.org/10.1016/j.foreco.2023.121403 for more details.
