Brief description of the research project and its aims: Temporary seasonal migration of the rural poor is often overlooked in national policies. Existing studies suggest that temporary migration is less effective than longer-term or permanent migration in reducing poverty, yet it remains the predominant form of migration in poor agrarian economies. Moreover, migration is commonly perceived as a rural-to-urban move, yet many temporary out-migrants from rural areas in Bangladesh, Myanmar, and India prefer other rural destinations instead. This raises two questions: first, why do rural poor prefer temporary migration over longer-term migration, and second, why do many temporary migrants prefer other rural destinations rather than urban. Description of methods used for collection/generation of data: We employed a multi-stage sampling approach to select study regions/divisions, districts, villages, and respondent households in Bangladesh. In the first stage, we purposively selected Rangpur Division of Bangladesh, where temporary migration is prevalent. There are eight districts in Rangpur division. Among them, in the second stage, we purposively selected two districts, Dinajpur and Kurigram, based on the proportion of agricultural labor-dependent households that are more prone to temporary migration. There are 1,872 villages in Kurigram and 2,131 villages in Dinajpur. In the third stage, we selected villages from these districts following a stratified random sampling approach. We randomly selected 16 villages from Dinajpur and 14 from Kurigram. We collected household lists for these villages from the respective local government (locally known as, union parishad) offices. From these lists, we randomly selected survey participant households. Power calculations with a 99% confidence level and a 5% margin of error suggested to survey a minimum of 612 households. To be on the safe side, we randomly selected 10% of households in each of the 30 selected villages, along with some additional replacement households in case of non-responses or missing data. We surveyed a total of 878 households, including 10-14% of households from each village. The survey was administered with the household head, who is often the migrant member. The food consumption module was administered often with the spouse of the head, who knows better about the household's food consumption. The survey questionnaires was programmed on SurveyCTO (paid ersion) and conducted by locally hired enumerators from Rangpur. 2. Methods for processing the data: From the SurveyCTO server, we downloaded .dta file. Using Stata, we manually removed test observations that were recorded and submitted during the enumerators training. Also, we removed some variables (e.g., names, sex, and education) to ensure anonymity of the dataset. 3. There were nine (09) enumerators who conducted the survey: Masiur Rahman, Habibur Rahman, Ripon Mia, Emon Hosen, Lingcon Roy, Rayhan Ali, Rajifar Nur, Sweety Rany Sarkar, and Rasel Rana. All of them were M.Sc. students in the local university in Rangpur, and they were hired to conduct this survey on daily wage-basis. 5. Variable list including full names and definitions of column headings for tabular data: Most of the variables are self-explanatory in Stata. However, the codebook is attached as a CSV file, titled "Migration_HH_Study_MSR_codebook_vars.csv". This codebook includes variable name, definition/description, units and value labels. The "Type" column in this file includes type of choices for each variable. For example, "select_one yesno" indicates that this variable took only one choice from a list of "yesno" options. The list of choice options are available in file "Migration_HH_Study_MSR_codebook_choicelists.csv". 2.
