Bevor 2015 bis 2017 Grabungen durch die Universität Bonn stattfanden, wurde eine Bauaufnahme des durchgeführt. Dank der Stiftung zur Förderung der Archäologie im Rheinischen Braunkohlenrevier sind die Ergebnisse nun ausgewertet. Auf eine römerzeitliche und merowingerzeitliche Nutzung folgte im 10./11. Jh. der Bau einer Saalkirche mit kurzem oder langem Hauptschiff. Ihr ging vermutlich eine Holzkirche voraus. Im späten 12. Jh. fügte man ein Seitenschiff hinzu, welches später zurückgebaut wurde. Befunde einer Gussanlage zeigen, dass die Kirche eine Bronzeglocke besaß. Der Friedhof umfasst rund 120 Gräber, vorrangig des 9. bis 12. Jhs.
